Prom Queen: The Movie

Prom Queen, the slasher teen web series launched by former Disney boss Michael Eisner, is set to be turned into a feature film, Bored of Dictators can reveal.

The series, which launched on yoof media platforms myspace and youtube last year, is produced by Big Fantastic and Vuguru, which is the digital production subsidiary of Eisner’s Tornante Company.

Prom Queen has subsequently been sold to TV broadcasters, notably in France and Japan, but Eisner is keen to take the Scream-meets-My-So-Called-Life series to the big screen. While he was in charge of The Mouse, Eisner produced movies such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and Beverly Hills Cop.

Do web series work outside of The Internets? Perhaps not if execs take them straight out of the box and bang them on the telly (ala Quarterlife). But they can certainly be turned into Big Fat Brands and with a little tinkering and a few added bells-and-whistles they can become relatively successful.
